Yes! We offer graphic design and file preparation services at The Print Refinery Louisville East. Whether you need a design built from scratch, an existing file cleaned up and made print-ready, or even data merging for large variable-data print runs — we can help.
Every project is unique, so design services are quoted per project and billed hourly with a half-hour minimum. Stop in or give us a call to discuss your project and we'll give you an honest estimate before any work begins.
Canva is a great tool for designing business print materials, and we work with Canva files regularly. Here's how to get your design to us:
Option 1 — Download as PDF: From Canva, download your design as a PDF (Print) file and bring it in or send it to us. This is the preferred format for most business printing projects and ensures your design comes through at the best possible quality.
Option 2 — Share via Canva: In some cases, we may ask you to share your Canva design directly with one of our designers. This allows us to make a copy of your project and verify that it is properly sized, formatted, and set up correctly for printing — before we put it on press. We'll walk you through how to share it if needed.
Not sure which option is best for your project? Give us a call at 1-502-339-1999 or stop in and we'll help you get your file print-ready.
In most cases, we supply all materials needed for your order — paper, substrates, garments, and products all come from us to ensure consistent quality and compatibility with our equipment.
The one exception is embroidery. If you have a garment or item you'd like embroidered, you're welcome to bring it in and we'll stitch your design directly onto it. Just stop in or give us a call at 1-502-339-1999 beforehand so we can confirm your item is compatible with our embroidery process.
Choosing between glossy and matte comes down to how and where you plan to display your prints. Here's a quick breakdown:
Glossy prints have a shiny, reflective finish that produces rich, vibrant colors and deep contrast. They're a great choice for portraits, vacation photos, and any image where color pop is important. The tradeoff is that glossy surfaces can show fingerprints easily and may produce glare under bright lighting — so they're not ideal for framing behind glass or displaying in brightly lit spaces.
Matte prints have a flat, non-reflective finish that gives images a softer, more classic look. They handle fingerprints much better, produce virtually no glare, and are an excellent choice for framed prints, artwork, and images displayed in well-lit rooms. Colors tend to be slightly less saturated than glossy, but many photographers prefer matte for its timeless, gallery-quality feel.
Not sure which is right for your project? Stop in and we'll help you choose — we can even show you samples side by side so you can see the difference in person.

Film developing pricing at The Print Refinery Louisville East is based on film type and format. These prices cover developing only — scanning and prints are available as add-ons when you place your order:
You can order film processing online and add scanning or prints during checkout, or bring your film in-store and we'll walk you through the options. Questions? Give us a call at 1-502-339-1999.
Pushing and pulling are darkroom techniques used during film development to compensate for intentional or accidental exposure differences.
Pushing film means extending the development time to increase the effective sensitivity of the film. Photographers push film when they shoot at a higher ISO than the film is rated for — for example, shooting ISO 400 film as if it were ISO 1600 in low light. Pushing increases contrast and grain, which many photographers use as a creative effect.
Pulling film is the opposite — reducing development time to lower the effective sensitivity. This is used when film has been overexposed, and helps bring back highlight detail and reduce contrast.
We offer push and pull processing at The Print Refinery Louisville East. When you drop off your film, just let us know how many stops you pushed or pulled and we'll develop it accordingly. Not sure what you need? Give us a call at 1-502-339-1999 and we'll help you figure it out.
Turnaround time for film processing depends on the type of film and our current queue. Here's what to expect:
Turnaround times can vary based on how much film we have in the queue at any given time. If you have a time-sensitive order, give us a call at 1-502-339-1999 before dropping off and we'll give you the most accurate estimate we can.
Yes, we do have a $5.00 minimum order across most of our products and services. This helps us maintain the quality and efficiency you expect from every order.
The only exception is in-store xerox copies, which fall below the minimum and are available without it. If you have questions about whether your order meets the minimum, feel free to give us a call at 1-502-339-1999 or stop in and we'll help you out.
For online orders, payment is required in full at the time of purchase.

Yes! We process expired film at The Print Refinery Louisville East, as long as it is C-41 (color negative) or black and white film. Unfortunately, we are not able to process other chemical processes such as C-22 or other specialty formats.
Just keep in mind that older, expired, or heat-damaged film can produce unpredictable results — including color shifts, increased grain, fading, or reduced contrast. These are natural characteristics of aged film, and part of what makes shooting expired film so unique. That said, we cannot guarantee results on expired film, so we recommend treating it as an experimental roll rather than something you're counting on.
If you're unsure whether we can process your film, feel free to stop in and ask — we're happy to take a look!
We accept a wide range of file formats for printing at The Print Refinery Louisville East, including JPEG, PNG, PDF, TIFF, PSD, AI, and SVG — so whether you're submitting a personal photo or a professionally designed file, we've got you covered.

If your file is lower resolution, we can often apply upscaling to help improve the result, though we recommend calling us first if you're unsure about your file's quality — we're happy to take a look before you place your order.
